Covenant: The Art of Allen Williams is at the Printer!

Hi, all,

We sent Covenant to the printer last week! We are about 2 weeks behind schedule, but it is for a good reason. Allen decided that he wanted to create a handful of new drawings just for this book. The extra two weeks gave him the time to make two new drawings that we are featuring in the bonus section of the hardcover edition. The book really looks amazing and we can’t wait for you to see it.

At the moment the printer is making the proofs that I will review next week. Once they are approved the book will be ready for the press. I’ll keep you updated throughout the various stages. Thanks again for supporting us with this book.

Franklin Booth: Painter With a Pen Revised Edition in the Works!

Hi, everyone,

This is one of my favorite drawings by Franklin Booth. We’ll be reprinting the Franklin Booth: Painter with a Pen book that I published back in 2002. I’ll release it in early 2022 to coincide with our Flesk 20th anniversary. I pulled out my disk drive from 2003 to refresh myself with the book. I discovered that I have a full folder of images that I had sorted and organized for a second booth book. I even found a correspondence that I had with one of his students (who was 93 at the time) and his niece (his brothers daughter) who both provided me with personal stories to share in a future book.

From the looks of things this will be a completely revised edition that will add an extra 100 pages with new essays and details about Booth. I handed over the book to Kathy to work on yesterday who is prepping the new images and organizing the book. I’ll completely redesign the book as well since I get bored with the idea of simply doing a reprint. I’ll keep you all updated!

These three titles are at the Hong Kong port waiting for a vessel to become available. The ports are currently jammed. 2021 Action Items!

Hi everyone,

At the beginning of each year I always look at the business as if I was just hired and seeing the Flesk operations for the first time. Kathy, Vicky and I have had long talks over the last few weeks and isolated a number of areas where we can improve and how we can make it happen. I’ll write a long blog post soon with more details.

At the moment we are looking for a new bookkeeper, followed by a new part time office helper. Our needs are not immediate, but we have our eyes open for the right person who can fill this role. Once we find and have settled in with a new bookkeeper we will turn our attention toward the new part time helper. If any of my local friends have any good leads, please let me know.

Besides gaining some more help, we have put together a plan to completely reorganize how we run the business. It’s pretty exciting and I feel energized as we tackle new projects. I like change and I like pursuing new ways of doing things, and luckily for me Vicky and Kathy are excited as well.I’ll be sharing a lot all during this year!

New Frank Cho Book Coming from Flesk in Spring 2021!

Hi everyone,

Frank Cho: Pencil & Ink book cover preliminary. Frank revealed this beautiful sketch yesterday. Here’s what he has to say about the piece.

“This was originally a Harley Quinn cover.

“I have about half dozen drawings and sketch ideas for future Harley Quinn covers lying around in my studio. I’m hoping DC will put me back on Harley cover duties again so that I can complete these unused cover ideas.

“I decided to tweak one of these unused cover images, and use it for my upcoming art book coming out in the late spring.You can see the Mucha and Franklin Booth inspirations on this cover. Love those artists.”

This new art book is coming from Flesk this spring.

Spectrum 27 Update!

We’re getting low on the paperback edition. I had set the print run for this book back in late-March when we were sheltered in place and facing a very uncertain future. It was very hard to predict how the state of the book industry would look in the fall and winter of 2020. Based on this, I ended up being conservative with the print run. Here we are nine months later and we are very grateful that Spectrum 27 is doing well. The print run turned out to be a little low, which I hope is reflective of an overall healthy book industry. At this rate the Spectrum 27 paperback edition will sell out in the next month or two. If you want a paperback copy for your library, you may want to pick up a copy soon. We still have plenty of the hardcover edition in stock.

Thanks for making Spectrum 27 a success during a very challenging year! Thanks also to all of the artists who participated in Spectrum 27 and who made this such an amazing collection.
