Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea Art Book–Mike Mignola and Gary Gianni. Coming This Fall From Flesk!

Hi, everyone,

The updated trade edition of Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea art book by Mike Mignola (plot and script) and Gary Gianni (art and script) is coming this fall from Flesk. This collection goes into great detail about how this 49-page comic was made. We’ve introduced new insight and details that didn’t make it into the original edition. It has been a lot of fun retooling this book to hit a new audience. We’ll share more details in the coming months.

The Art of Arthur Adams is Coming From Flesk!

The Telegraph Wire #19 cover by Arthur Adams and Mike Mignola. February-March 1985. This was a promotional giveaway from the Comics & Comix stores in the Bay Area. This Longshot and Rocket Racoon piece is a very early collaboration by these two legends!

We’ve been working hard here at Flesk on the upcoming The Art of Arthur Adams: A Forty-Year Retrospective book. This collection will show examples from each year of his career that spans from 1982 to 2022. I had a call with Arthur that lasted almost five hours last Friday to gather stories to use as captions. I have the captions for the first 100 pages typed up so far. The book has been fully mapped out and all of the art has been selected. Just as soon as I am done writing up the remaining captions, we will pour our energy into the book design. I can see it very clearly in my head, so the design work will flow nicely.

This is a really fun book to work on. We’re shooting for a mid-June delivery date to the printer, followed by a Kickstarter launch once it is on the press. I always feel much more comfortable when a book is done before launching a campaign.

Besides this book, our Rachel and Terry Dodson book is coming along very well. I mapped out their book and have one-third of their captions typed up. And, two other books that I have not even announced yet are almost done!

Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea Studio Edition Kickstarter Campaign Ends Thursday

We’re in the final stretch of our Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea Studio Edition Kickstarter campaign! It ends tomorrow!

There has been five stretch goals unlocked since we launched the campaign a month ago. Lots of bonus material and free goodies are now included.

This book, which is written by Mike Mignola and Gary Gianni, and with art by Gary includes the Hellboy story with it’s thumbnails and preliminary art. Now, it also includes additional pages including a MonsterMen story, plus a bonus The Call of Cthulhu book illustrated by Gary. There are prints also!

Free bonus book for supporting our Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea by Mike Mignola and Gary Gianni Kickstarter campaign! How’s this for the best stretch goal ever? A free Gianni signed book with 100 pencil drawings.

Free fully illustrated The Call of Cthulhu book by Gianni to all Kickstarter supporters who pledge $50 or more if we reach our Stretch Goal #4, 80K goal! The Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft comes illustrated with over one hundred pencil drawings by Gary Gianni. This 96 page paperback book will be 6 x 9.125 inches. All copies come signed by Gianni.

A few years ago, Gary Gianni began to work on a personal project; a fully illustrated edition of one of Lovecraft’s most highly regarded texts, The Call of Cthulhu. Gary Completed a full mock-up of the book by heavily designing the story with approximately 100 pencil drawings in preparation for the pen and ink finishes. Despite his intentions to complete the book, (George R.R. Martin wanted Gary to work on a small project of his!) and in spite of all the pencil work, it was set aside and never came to fruition. Now we have a unique opportunity to see this version in a beautifully produced book.

In addition, Gary is refining the design and many of the drawings to make this bonus book even more special. With your help we can give you this version as a free bonus for supporting the Kickstarter campaign with a pledge of $50.00 or more!

Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea Studio Edition! Kickstarter Launch on Sep. 12th!

Launching on Kickstarter next Tuesday, September 12th! Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea Studio Edition! This book showcases Gary Gianni’s thumbnails, pencil preliminaries, and the final art–all reproduced from the original art.

The book will also include notes throughout by Gary that give you an intimate look into the making of the book. Additionally Gary writes about working with Mike Mignola to make this graphic novel come to life.

More details will be revealed on launch day!
