2021 Action Items!

Hi everyone,

At the beginning of each year I always look at the business as if I was just hired and seeing the Flesk operations for the first time. Kathy, Vicky and I have had long talks over the last few weeks and isolated a number of areas where we can improve and how we can make it happen. I’ll write a long blog post soon with more details.

At the moment we are looking for a new bookkeeper, followed by a new part time office helper. Our needs are not immediate, but we have our eyes open for the right person who can fill this role. Once we find and have settled in with a new bookkeeper we will turn our attention toward the new part time helper. If any of my local friends have any good leads, please let me know.

Besides gaining some more help, we have put together a plan to completely reorganize how we run the business. It’s pretty exciting and I feel energized as we tackle new projects. I like change and I like pursuing new ways of doing things, and luckily for me Vicky and Kathy are excited as well.I’ll be sharing a lot all during this year!

New Frank Cho Book Coming from Flesk in Spring 2021!

Hi everyone,

Frank Cho: Pencil & Ink book cover preliminary. Frank revealed this beautiful sketch yesterday. Here’s what he has to say about the piece.

“This was originally a Harley Quinn cover.

“I have about half dozen drawings and sketch ideas for future Harley Quinn covers lying around in my studio. I’m hoping DC will put me back on Harley cover duties again so that I can complete these unused cover ideas.

“I decided to tweak one of these unused cover images, and use it for my upcoming art book coming out in the late spring.You can see the Mucha and Franklin Booth inspirations on this cover. Love those artists.”

This new art book is coming from Flesk this spring.

Jeffrey Alan Love Flesk Books Update!

We’re down to less than 100 copies of each title that is available direct on our Flesk website. Each copy comes signed! The hardcover editions are sold out. Spectrum 27 Update!

We’re getting low on the paperback edition. I had set the print run for this book back in late-March when we were sheltered in place and facing a very uncertain future. It was very hard to predict how the state of the book industry would look in the fall and winter of 2020. Based on this, I ended up being conservative with the print run. Here we are nine months later and we are very grateful that Spectrum 27 is doing well. The print run turned out to be a little low, which I hope is reflective of an overall healthy book industry. At this rate the Spectrum 27 paperback edition will sell out in the next month or two. If you want a paperback copy for your library, you may want to pick up a copy soon. We still have plenty of the hardcover edition in stock.

Thanks for making Spectrum 27 a success during a very challenging year! Thanks also to all of the artists who participated in Spectrum 27 and who made this such an amazing collection.

The Spectrum 27 Awards Ship Today!

We received the Spectrum 27 awards from J. Anthony Kosar and his team at Kosart Studios. We’ve carefully packed them up and are sending them to the 17 recipients today. There are eight silver and eight gold awards, along with the Grand Master award. It was a wonderful experience to work with Anthony and his team to produce these gorgeous awards.

Edwin Austin Abbey Book Update.

The Edwin Austin Abbey book is now 400 pages! It will be available in the spring of 2021 direct from Flesk.

I started this book over 10 years ago with the intent to publish it in 2011. Life got in the way as I put it on a virtual shelf while I focused on other books.

Early this year, with the help of Kathy and Alice “Bunny” Carter, we pulled out the book to give it a fresh look. It has gone from my initial 176 page collection, to our 400 page collection. Bunny has written a 10,000 word Abbey essay. In addition, Bunny shared some rare Abbey books with us. This allowed us to add over 100 more drawings to the book.

We’ve turned the book over to Kathy who is putting the final touches on it. It’s neat to see her wrapping up the Abbey book. Coincidentally, she is the same age that I was when I was working on the Franklin Booth book and when I started this company. She’s really doing great.

We’ll be sending this book to the printer along with the recently announced Allen Williams book. This will be in early 2021, for a release sometime around the spring of next year. We’ll start to take pre-orders once it is at the printer.
