Flesk 2021 Book Updates!

This is a brief overview of our year and what you can expect to see from us.

I’ll start with the photo. It was taken during a visit to the Al Williamson studio a few years back. Being able to see the “Savage World!” original art was a special moment. Especially while the pages were resting on Al’s drawing table.

Here’s a shipping update on the Williamson and Mark Schultz books.

If all goes well, we will have Al Williamson: Strange World Adventures, Carbon 4 by Mark Schultz, Xenozoic by Mark Schultz and the Al Williamson and Mark Schultz Astounding Sketchbook next week. The books are still at the port waiting to be offloaded from the shipping vessel. We will begin shipping our Kickstarter pledges and Flesk online pre-orders just as soon as they arrive.

As for our next wave of Flesk books, we have five other books at the printer. These include The Drawings of Edwin Austin Abbey, Covenant: The Art of Allen Williams, new books with Frank Cho and Gary Gianni, and a new printing of the Bruce Timm Naughty and Nice collection. Once the books have been printed and are being shipped to us I’ll reveal more and open them all up for pre-orders. We would like to see how the shipping transit times are looking before we announce the release dates.

In the meantime, we are working on the new Franklin Booth book, two new Arthur Adams books, three new William Stout books, plus we are wrapping up two books by a pair of new artists. Then we have the J.A.W. Cooper book to start in June, plus two other new artists who we will start working with in the summer. Then we will have more books featuring Mark Schultz and Al Williamson to work on for 2022. There’s more, but this is what we can share to date.

For the rest of 2021 we do not have any plans to exhibit at any shows. This includes the San Diego November show that we will skip. We will start fresh with events in 2022. Until that time we will continue to make the best books that we can.

Coming soon! Al Williamson: Strange World Adventures, Carbon 4 and Xenozoic by Mark Schultz! Our printer samples arrived and the books look beautiful! These three titles are at the Hong Kong port waiting for a vessel to become available. The ports are currently jammed. Al Williamson’s Strange World Adventures Book Update!

Al Williamson’s Strange World Adventures book update!

While working on the book we realized that the previously advertised book dimensions of 9 x 12 inches was too small. We increased the size to 9.75 x 13 inches to give the book some more breathing room for the art and text.

In addition, we are fortunate to have a new foreword by William Stout and an introduction by Rick Veitch. Both of these gentlemen were friends with Al and wrote heartfelt tributes about Al.

Al Williamson and Mark Schultz Books Update!

Hello, all,

We’ve been incredibly busy here since the campaign ended last month. I’d like to give you an update on each of the four books.

1. The Al Williamson and Mark Schultz Astounding Sketchbook

This bonus item is done and at the printer! We filled up this 16 page sketchbook with never before published sketches and preliminaries by Al and Mark. It sure was a lot of fun to dig through material to use for this.

2. Carbon 4 by Mark Schultz

This book is done and at the printer! I worked closely with Mark over the last few months to select art for this collection. As always, Mark is a joy to work with and we are very proud with how this new collection came out. Mark decided at the last minute to draw a few new pieces that will be revealed once the book is shipped to you.

3. Xenozoic by Mark Schultz

This book is done and at the printer. We’re very excited to bring the classic Xenozoic Tales collection back in print in this new format. We poured over every detail and are happy to have this coming out soon.

4. Al Williamson Strange World Adventures

The artwork selection, the writing, and the preliminary designs are all done. At this time, I am focused full time on tightening up the designs, then will focus on the finished designs, followed by the final proofing. We were able to pull together a beautiful selection of Al’s artwork that spans his entire career. I expect to have it done in the next couple of weeks. I ended up doing far more writing for the book than I initially intended, which added a few weeks to the production time, but I feel it was well worth the effort.

I’ll let you all know right when the Al Williamson book is done!

Art of Al Williamson Book in the Works

I’m back to working on the new Al Williamson art book. Here’s a picture that I took of a stack of X-9 originals in Al’s studio to whet your appetite while you wait for me to finish the book.

Much of the detective work has been done. I have all of the art that I need with few exceptions. I just need to get scans of a handful of prime EC originals, and a few scans from Creepy, Eerie and House of Mystery–then there will be representation from just about every area that Al touched.

I haven’t set a release date. It’ll be done when it’s done. I’ve been wanting to do this book for the last 8 years. I’m pretty happy to be sitting here with Kathy as we chip away at it!
